What is known as BankSouth today is a combination of two local banks – The Citizens Bank was founded in Greensboro, Georgia on April 1, 1946, and Bank of Union Point, was founded in Union Point, Georgia on May 15, 1911. The bank operated as Citizens Union until adopting the name of BankSouth in 2004.
A century later, BankSouth remains locally owned and managed with board members who have served for decades, and has become the leading financial institution in the area with over 53% deposit market share.
BankSouth has been recognized by its peers receiving the inaugural Georgia Community Bank of the Year Service Award; by the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) as a Top 100 among community banks; and also by IBCA and in the Top 20 among other banks its size.
