On July 5th, 1888, Citizens National Bank opened its doors for business. Originally, the bank was established with five shareholders and $50,000 in capital. Although, growth was slow to occur, the bank was known for its honest employees and willingness to help the community. On February 6th, 1911, the bank became Citizen's State Bank. Over this same time frame, the bank had grown to almost six times its orginal size. In 1930's the bank had grown to approximately a half million in asset size and was able to survive the great depression.From this point forward, Citizens Bank grew in size and by its 100 year anniversary had established over thirty million in assets.
Citizens Bank in Loup City first opened its doors in 2000 as a Loan Production Office of Citizens Bank & Trust in St. Paul. It was located at 133 S 7th Street. On January 28th, 2002, the bank opened as a nationally chartered full service bank under the name of Citizens National Bank. Shortly after opening as a full service bank, the bank began planning the construction of its new location. The employees moved into the current location on December 20th, 2004.
Citizens National Bank was converted a Nebraska State bank in May of 2006, and the word National was removed from the bank name. In December of 2009, Citizens Bank merged with its sister bank, Citizens Bank & Trust Co. in St. Paul, along with purchasing Central Bank in Central City. The Brasee family has been the principal shareholder since the banks beginning. With another expansion of the current bank building in 2009, Citizens Bank & Trust Co. looks forward to continued growth and serving the financial needs of the area.
