The Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois has been a financial partner with area communities since its original charter as the Farmers State Bank of Alpha on January 22, 1910. In May of 1980, Alpha Banco, Inc. was formed and purchased a majority of Farmers State Bank of Alpha.
Alpha Banco, Inc. purchased the Bank of Alexis in September of 1990. In December of 1990, Alpha Banco, Inc. became the sole owner of Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois. In October of 1992 The Bank of Alexis was merged with Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois. In November of 1992, a new office was opened in Woodhull.
In the fall of 1994 construction was started on a new building in Aledo. That office opened in March of 1995. In the fall of 2003 construction was started on a new building in Viola. That office opened in April of 2004.
