Organized as the First National Bank in 1901 by Dr. S. B. Diamond, the bank received its first deposit on November 13, 1902, when Harry F. Young opened a savings account. Five years later, the bank had capital of $25,000 and deposits of $132,828. In 1911, the bank’s name was changed to First Trust and Saving Bank.
Over the years the bank has grown in size and services. When the bank moved to its present building in 1975, total assets were $10 million. After moving to its new building in 1975, the bank's old building was donated to the newly formed Albany Public Library District.
In 2001 the bank completed a major remodeling of the lobby. In 2006, First Trust & Savings Bank merged with Old Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Erie and Hillsdale. Today, total assets exceed $100 million. First Trust and Savings Bank is locally owned, and there have been only five presidents since the bank was founded.
