First Volunteer Bank first opened its doors as Marion Trust and Banking in 1904. Since then, First Volunteer Bank has grown to a 24 branch bank serving Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.
During 2003 and 2004, First Volunteer Bank opened a new location in Chattanooga, and First Volunteer Insurance Agency purchased Chattanooga Insurance Agency. In 2007 First Volunteer purchased Benton Banking Company in Polk County. The purchase included three full service branches and two in-store branches. The branches were converted to First Volunteer Bank in October 2008.
In early 2012 First Volunteer purchased Gateway Bank & Trust in Northwest Georgia – the bank’s first venture out of the state of Tennessee. This purchase included three full service branches in Ringgold, Fort Oglethorpe and LaFayette. The branches were converted to First Volunteer in September.
Today First Volunteer Bank remains focused on being the number one multi-market community bank for Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.
