Port Byron State Bank is the second oldest bank in the State of Illinois. The Village of Port Byron, was established in 1828, however, the town along the bank of the Mississippi River was not officially laid out until 1836. During the 1850's, Mr. Devore established a General Store and a banking business. It was not long before the banking sideline in the general store outgrew the capacity of the safe. In 1863 a regular banking business was established under the name of W.H. Devore, Banker. Port Byron State Bank was incorporated as a State Bank in 1903 and is still located on the same site in downtown Port Byron. In 1999, the bank opened its second location in Colona, Illinois. Port Byron State Bank then opened its third location in Coal Valley, Illinois in 2006.
During 150 years in business, Port Byron State Bank has shared not only the progress, but the economic "ups and downs" of Upper Rock Island County. Port Byron State Bank is the second oldest bank in the State of Illinois. Port Byron State Bank remains committed to being a locally owned community bank.
