On September 6, 1911 the institution was chartered and capitalized with $25,000.00. The Bank flourished for the next two decades until March 14, 1935 . On October 24, 1933 , The Farmers Bank made an application to become a Charter Member Bank in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. At this time, deposit accounts were insured for $2,500.00.
The Farmers Bank has always been a very progressive bank in serving Greene and surrounding counties. In the 60's the Bank was one of the first banks in the nation to offer its customers "Drive In" banking services. In the 70's the Bank was one of the first banks in the nation to offer ATM services.
In 1986, Putnam-Greene Financial Corporation purchased The Farmers Bank. This enabled The Farmers Bank to keep its local control but increase its size of loans due to a higher capital base. The Bank continues to maintain its State Charter and local Board of Directors.
Today, The Farmers Bank prides itself on customer service with a personal hometown touch. Although times have changed, the bank still realize that commitment to the well being of community is the banks first priority.
