Wayne Bank was founded on November 4, 1871, and was known as the Wayne County Savings Bank, located on Main Street in the heart of Honesdale, a burgeoning canal town at the terminus of the Delaware and Hudson Canal. Early financing included everything from boat building and harness manufacturing to tanneries and farming. The shutdown of the Canal at the end of the 19th century forced the Bank to change with the times by financing the expansion of the county into other industries such as glassworks, textile factories and logging.

At the time the Bank marked its centennial in 1971, assets had grown to about $18.5 million, with 18 employees on staff operating two offices in Honesdale and Waymart. In 1980, the Bank opened a satellite office on Willow Avenue in Honesdale.

1985 brought the Bank's brand of personal service to customers in the Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack area with the construction and opening of a new branch. In 1993, with its name changed to reflect its widening business base, Wayne Bank added a branch in the historic Pike County seat of Milford. A year later, the Bank opened its first supermarket branch in Hamlin, however, that branch was closed as of April 2009. Shohola and Lakewood branches were added to the network in 1996 in Pike County.

The 1999 opening of the Bank's Stroud Mall, Stroudsburg, branch introduced us to Monroe County. The Lords Valley branch office was opened in 2000, the Marshalls Creek office opened its doors to customers in the summer of 2004 and the Tannersville location was built and opened in December of 2006. In May of 2011, Wayne Bank acquired 5 more community offices, three in Lackawanna County, and two in Monroe County.
